Peter Ombedha, is a trained Citizen photo/journalist and well known community organizers and social entrepreneurs in Kibera.
He was born in Siaya county, one of the counties in the former Nyanza Province in the southwest part of Kenya. He was raised in Kibera, the largest urban slum in Africa, where he experienced the devastating realities of life in extreme poverty.
He worked as Field Assistant with Pawa254 in their project Sauti Ya Mtaa where he also served as Social Media Manager and Official Photographer.
He is a former writer and photo editor with Ghetto Mirror, a monthly and wide read slum newspaper published and distributed for free by Shining Hope For Communities where he work for three years. While working at the Organization, Ombedha collected his savings to buy a Cyber-shot Digital Camera w830 in 2013.
In 2014, Ombedha and his friend Owino Paul started an online blog-news called Ghetto News Network, before it changed its name to The Hood News with an aim of informing, educating, and empowering the slum youth through developing their media skills. Since then The Hood Foundation has develop, not only focus on news but it also run programs like Sport team and Youth/Adult Economic Empowerment.
